Briefly outline the content of your podcast and the strategy(s) you adopted in creating it?
My podcast focuses on the people using social media to show their political agender. I also wanted to focus on how not only did it affect the way candidate and politicians use it but how the news media uses it. But due to time restraint I didn’t get to talk about multiple politicians tried to use singular sentences then spicing those together to get a clean yet ‘real speech feel’. I also want the podcast to sound like I was having a conversation with someone, so I used real life terms and examples to ground my statements. My other strategy was to have many different goes at the same sentence not only to get it right but to get the best version of it. I ended up with around 70 recordings around 1min long. This also allowed a lot of different points and examples so I could choose which one worked the best.
How your podcast was informed by your reading/research–i.e. explain how you used your source(s) in your podcast
I tried keep most of the research to an ideas format. So, I searched up what the biggest influences on social media is. I did this as I already toughly know the things that I’m talking about. I just wanted to get some key dot points that I could use my own knowledge and expertise on. But for some of the research I needed to find specific examples, I use key words in google search and twitter feeds of Donald trump and Malcomb Turnbul to find some specific tweets. Although I didn’t include some of this research in the final product.
Reflect on the challenges you faced and what you learnt from the exercises
My biggest challenge was the editing. I use 4 different software to create the product. This was because each program I used was crashing constantly and not behaving properly. But though trial and error multiple updates and several hours trouble shooting. The other problem was the corrupt files. This was a result of my compute bios setting encoding the written data wrong. I was also very nervous when I recorded my parts so I went through multiple take before I got the right one.

My online presence
Cooper Mathews
My online identity is very friendship based as seen by my privacy settings on Facebook and Instagram. On Facebook all my friends are people that I have had contact with or are my friends in real life. This means I get all of the information and updates from my friends at the top of my feed. That being said I also follow some content pages such as unilad and student problems so I can tag my friends and communicate with them through comments.

This communication and tagging is a good way to stay in contact when my friends are in different places. Similarly, my Instagram is completely private from non-followers this is important for me a
s I can post things that are meaningful to my friends and followers as I see it as a more personal extension of myself and a good way to keep an album of my good photos. However again like Facebook I rarely post and is most used for liking posts and as a centre for keeping up with people I follow and content pages I follow as a form of entertainment. These two platforms can be seen as a form of entertainment when I have some time to kill also as a way to interact with my friends.
Next my ways of talking with my friends and other people these consist of:
- Facebook Messenger
- Snapchat
- PlayStation parties
- SMS messages
- Gmail
Facebook Messenger is a way to text in groups or one on one with different people. I use this as my communication with friends. I have one chat with all of my high school friends. This chat called the “pissup patrol” is for organising things with my friends and posting funny or interesting things such as concerts or memes. This platform is also great for making chats with people for events or making random group chats for games. It’s also a great way to get instant messages form people.

My other main form of communication is Snapchat. This is mainly used for snap streaks. This daily communication is a great way of seeing how people are going and weather they are ok. Snapchat also allows you to communicate using more emotion than other chat applications. Also, the limited time nature of snapchat means that you can’t be intruded on by people going through your phone.
A common chat system I use is PlayStation chat. this party system allows me to communicate with my friends online with ease. This is great for me as most of my friends are in Melbourne and I can use this to catch up on all of their goings on’s.
I use SMS as a form of formal communication. An example of this is when I communicate with my different swim teaching jobs when they need me to come in or fill in for a shift. This also allows quick communication between my family members.
Lastly Gmail. This form of communication is again more formal and work based and is where the balk of my emails come into. This allows me to make formal replies to important things as well as payment and subscriptions.
On the other end I have twitter and my website. This is where I post all of my public items. Twitter, I use to communicate with students and other people. The open nature of the website allows for easy communication and discussion. I also use the front page as a news feed keeping up with the world and people that I follow. My website and more importantly my blogs are a more openly personal reflection of myself and inner thoughts. It is also a hub where you can find all of my social media.

the crisis of engagement I think also has something to do with the ways we get jobs now. There are so many jobs now that want university degree's over things like apprenticeship its becoming harder and harder to give more practical hands on people a job. #ALM101

I think selfies reveal a new way of capturing a moment. It allows the user to take a picure with ease and with alot expression you couldnt do in a traditional photo. #ALM101

ONLINE PERSONAS
Another Important thing about your online presence is your persona. I’d like to think that my online persona is just a reflection of myself. As what I post and like are based on my beliefs. These beliefs I believe can be seen in the way in the comments and posts I like on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and twitter. I will often leave a comment to someone’s comment/post sometimes arguing with them. But I can also see how the online personas of people can be hidden in real life. Like people often have a more sensational and over the top. This is supported by an article on phys.org which says that Online personas rarely match real life behaviors. One of the quotes from the Albright in the article says, “It makes them, in a way, stars of their own reality shows.” I think this is very reminiscent of the environment online as it shows that people are more willing to reflect their beliefs than in the real world.

Me and Social Media
Well its been a long time setting up this website I had to learn a lot of new things about using Microsoft Azure. This helped me for both my #ALM101 Making Social Media elective and #SIT124 Exploring I.T.
It’s been a new experience using social media this way. Never have i ever thought of Blogging and I quite enjoy just being able to talk things out. It has given me a lot of time to think about things in this chaotic world I live in. This includes things like Work at random times, rowing, Uni, going for my P’s and family working on a renovation. I’ve also really enjoyed posting to twitter for the same reason, it allows me to express myself and put my thoughts us out there. Its especially weird because I have never done this before. I mean I have expressed my self in comments and on other peoples posts. I only used Facebook and Instagram to like and post photos, snapchat to send photos and post stories and twitter to use as a connection to famous people. This unit has changed the way I use social media
